Position
The copy director is the voice of the Brand. He or she creates a compelling brand voice that distinguishes the company in a crowded marketplace and that sells products. While leading the copy staff, the copy director maintains and evolves this brand voice.
Responsibilities and Skills
- Define or refine the company's brand voice in alignment with senior managements vision
- Create writing guidelines for the copy staff. These guidelines explain what the voice sounds like and why it should sound like that.
- Lead the team in brainstorming on strategic initiatives ranging from seasonal concepts to quick turnaround market response projects
- Write copy for all channels (catalog, web, retail, corporate) and any other marketing materials
- Work with creative partners to continually explore fresh ways to drive sales and to enhance the company's brand image
- Collaborate with merchandisers to ensure that product copy is accurate and effective
- Partner with designers to ensure copy and design complement and elevate one another
- Seek, hire, supervise, and develop writers and proofreaders
- Ensure the Copy team delivers on schedule
- Help create a culture of team pride, team spirit, high standards, and continuous improvement
Requirements
- Proven ability to write copy that sells clothes, preferably in a catalog
- Minimum ten years of writing and editing experience, with at least three years in copy management
- A strategic thinker
- A swift writer
- A decisive and incisive editor
- Calm under pressure
- Able to lead a team with a balance of guidance and delegation
- Mac-proficient in Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign
