The client is a publishing Giant in the direct marketing world, operating for over 50 years and has touched every generation with its values based on education and entertainment.

The Position

This position oversees strategic planning and implementing for the acquisition and evaluation of lists and alternative media used to promote the client's products. The Media position works closely with product managers and marketing managers to understand the goals of the marketing group, to develop strategy, and to make recommendations for ongoing promotional campaigns.

The position requires strong knowledge of all facets of the Consumer Products Group business and its complexities. Position is subject to deadlines and some travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee list acquisition functions for the Consumer Products Group.
  • Help develop and approve list recommendations for promotional campaigns.
  • Oversee rental and house lists evaluation and procurement for promotional campaigns.
  • Cultivate relationships with list brokers and other mailers; make recommendations for new vendors and services.
  • Maintain knowledge of marketing database or list fulfillment software to be able to communicate effectively in the areas of list pulls, queries, and counts.
  • Oversee the merge-purge process including approving schedules and reviewing instructions. Have working knowledge of address hygiene, merge-purge parameters, and postal presorts.
  • Be well-versed in the methods and techniques of list and data modeling. Make recommendations for ways to test and improve mailings.
  • Work with outside vendors, internal analysts and direct reports to develop and implement models such as regression analyses and credit screens in promotions for both house and rented lists.
  • Proactively evaluate existing processes. Offer/implement suggestions for improving processes and reducing costs.
  • Review, negotiate and approve invoices related to media campaigns. Provide information to appropriate analyst and market manager. Supply costs, timing and other information for budgeting purposes.
  • Manage all staffing related functions, job development, and work progress of each direct report. Cross-train staff for extra coverage and serve as back up when appropriate.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business with Marketing or Finance emphasis; MBA preferred.
  • Four or more years marketing experience in some or all areas of list, media planning, database modeling, and analysis.
  • 2+ years management experience with familiarity in direct marketing; publishing preferred.
  • Advanced quantitative, analytical, organizational, (verbal and written) communication, leadership, & management skills.
  • Working knowledge of list tools such as regression models, CHAID, credit screens.
  • In-depth knowledge of concepts related to list targeting such.
  • Strong ability to see overall picture while having great attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects at one time while meeting deadlines.
