Top associations turn to them for help with membership development, convention/tradeshow marketing, catalog development, media sales (advertising, exhibit and list management), and Web services.
The Position
An opportunity for the Account Director position has arisen for the right individual and this person would be charged with the responsibility of new business development for the company's agency and list management. Some major responsibilities include: lead generation, qualification, proposal preparation and sales presentations. The Account Director will also be responsible for managing the new account transition period, managing all marketing functions for new accounts requiring extensive consulting services and providing all necessary marketing counsel, budgeting, project management, program implementation, and other services as required of assigned.
Essential Duties
- Implement and manage a sales strategy to achieve aggressive sales goals.
- Develop and execute strategies for lead generation, sales, pricing, and all other matters related to revenue generation.
- Personally pursue and close key sales opportunities and manage the sales process.
- Lead internal teams from multiple disciplines to pursue key prospects.
- Provide market feedback to the company leadership regarding competitive offerings, prospect needs and generate product development ideas.
- Ensure sales offerings are closely coordinated and in alignment with internal product offerings.
Success of the above will be strongly dependent upon the Director of Business Development's ability to:
- Build a professional and trusting relationship with a client
- Understand the client's requirements
- Set and manage client's expectations
- Create clear, precise and properly detailed client job instructions /documentation
- Communicate the specifics to a client as quickly as possible
- Follow up with a client as quickly as possible
- Proactively solicit feedback from client on their current and future needs
Required Skills
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with at least seven total years work
- Minimum of four years in a sales and/or marketing function and minimum of three years in direct response marketing.
- Knowledge of associations, agencies and related service industry professions are highly preferred.
- Strong comfort level on the phone, excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, to include networking, cold calling, group/individual presentations and contract negotiation
- Works well independently
- Manages priorities and projects to ensure that qualified sales leads are converted into sales
- Strong project and budget management skills to ensure that client projects are implemented on time and within budget.
- Strong PC skills to include Microsoft Office
- Ability to travel locally and out of town for business related sales and meetings.
